Volkswagen announces the prices of the electric Volkswagen ID4. The crossover, like its brother ID3, first appears in 1st versions. These are also the cars that may still be delivered in 2020.
The Volkswagen ID4 will initially appear as 1st and 1st Max. That means that there is one version less available than with the ID3, because that hatchback is also available as 1st Plus. Both introductory versions of the ID4 are based on the most expensive engine version, the Pro Performance. That means 204 hp, a 0-100 time of 8.5 seconds, a battery pack of 77 kWh and a range of 501 km. Earlier, 520 km was predicted, but apparently a small correction applies.
The differences between the 1st and the 1st Max are therefore in the equipment. The currently most affordable ID4, the Volkswagen ID4 1st, costs € 47,340. For that amount, you get the ID4 as it starred in our First Step Guide video. The car features LED all-round lighting, 20-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, heated seats and a 10-inch touchscreen on the dashboard. In terms of safety, this version includes Lane Assist, parking sensors, a reversing camera and adaptive cruise control. Trinkets such as mood lighting that can be set in thirty colors are also standard, as is the We Connect app connectivity.
This seems to leave little to be desired, but the ID4 Max is still a bit further loaded. For example, this car offers more extensive and nicer-looking LED lighting with 3D effect, an (almost) continuous light bar at the front and matrix LED high beam. In addition, this version will have even larger wheels (21 inch), a fixed glass panoramic roof, a 12-inch touchscreen and a head-up display. Also standard – and you may miss that on the regular 1st – is keyless access, so that the car can be opened without touching the key. In addition, the Max offers an additional zone for climate control, massage seats and a hands-free electric tailgate. All that luxury costs something: € 56,940.
Performance | price |
Volkswagen ID4 1st | € 47,340 |
Volkswagen ID4 1st Max | € 56,940 |
For comparison: the ID3 1st costs € 37,990, the ID3 1st Max costs € 49,490.
Contrary to what we are used to from Volkswagen, there are no separate options available on the ID4 1st models outside of the colors. This simplifies the ordering process, but also the production and delivery process. The goal is to deliver the ID4 1st to customers this year, which will yield those customers an 8 percent addition over the bottom 45 grand. No guarantees are given in that regard. We did, however, notice in the corridors that this should at least be successful for some of the orders.
Anyone who thinks all this is just a bit too much will have to wait until next year. Then the regular versions of the ID4 are ready, with an expected starting price of around € 38,000. However, a smaller battery pack must be taken into account: the entry-level ID4 has to do with around 52 kWh.
