New road sign for charging points along the highway

It is becoming clearer to electric drivers whether they can charge their car at a petrol station along the highway. From now on, signs announcing a petrol station will show a blue hexagon at the top right with a plug, so that it is clear that the petrol station has a charging station. For filling stations with a hydrogen pump, there will be a green window at the bottom right with H2 in it.

The old icon for alternative fuels is unclear. It does indicate that clean fuels can be refueled, but not which ones. For example, it is possible that electric drivers who want to charge will only find a hydrogen pump.

The signs with new pictograms are not immediately placed everywhere, but only replace old signposts when they need to be replaced. As a result, it can take a few years before they are everywhere. There are already two new signs in Zeeland.

State Secretary Stientje van Veldhoven (Infrastructure) is pleased with the change. “It is great that everyone will soon be able to see at a glance where you can charge or refuel along the highway. That makes clean driving a little more comfortable and that is a good thing.”
