Mercedes-AMG is on a record hunt. Recently it took a ‘Ring record with the AMG GT 4-Door Coupé and now it breaks another lap record with the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series. And what kind of one! According to Mercedes-AMG, the most intense street version of the AMG GT Coupé can call itself the fastest production car at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife.
A lavish tear nose like the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series was born to sink its teeth into circuits like the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. To show how fierce the superlative of the Mercedes-AMG GT is, the brand has unleashed the coupe with none other than GT3 driver Maro Engel behind the wheel on the 20.6 kilometer circuit without the straight on track section T13 . The lap time: 6:43; 616 minutes. If the long part is included there, and the track is ‘suddenly’ 20.8 kilometers long, the lap time is 6: 48.047. The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series can therefore call itself the fastest series-built road-legal car on the German circuit.
The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is the superlative of the Mercedes-AMG GT. The coupé has the same biturbo 4.0 V8 in its long nose as the other variants of the AMG GT. However, with its power of 730 hp and 800 Nm, that eight-cylinder is much more powerful than that in the previously strongest road-legal version: the AMG GT R. The eight-cylinder coupled to an AMG Speedshift DCT-7G automatic transmission helps the AMG GT Black Series in 3, 2 counts at a speed of 100 km / h. Its top speed is 230 km / h. More impressive are the only 9 seconds it takes to sprint from a standstill to a speed of 200 km / h.
From the outside, the fierce Black Series can be recognized by various design elements from the AMG GT3 and GT4 racing versions. For example, adjustable splitters have been placed at the front and the hood and front screens are equipped with extra cooling openings and slots. On the back of the AMG GT Black Series is a truly immense rear spoiler. The top part of it can be adjusted electrically, although the entire wing can also be adjusted manually. The modified bumper and spoiler work, according to Mercedes-AMG, provides 400 kilos of downforce at a speed of 250 km / h. The list of adjustments compared to the ‘milder’ AMG GTs is virtually endless. The Black Series has an adjustable chassis, more powerful brakes and a modified exhaust system. The windscreen is made of laminated glass, making it thinner and lighter than a regular one, the Black Series has carbon fiber transmission mounts and behind the 20-inch wheels are special ceramic brakes with composite discs. The AMG GT Black Series, just like the AMG GT R, has adjustable coil springs. AMG Ride Control is also standard equipment. The alloy of the record car is folded ‘soft’ Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, the same rubber with which the AMG Black Series is available. Mercedes-AMG says it has not adjusted anything for the record attempt.
According to Mercedes-AMG it can all be a bit faster. For example, the asphalt would only have had a temperature of 10 degrees.
