McLaren is working on a new hybrid supercar that will mark the end of the Sports Series. It is now also known what this electrified super sportsman will be called: Artura.
McLaren will soon end the Sports Series as it currently exists. The Sports Series, which consists of cars like the 570S and 600LT, is being replaced by a hybrid newcomer. McLaren has now put a name on that upcoming model: Artura. In addition, McLaren reports that the Artura will go on sale in the first half of next year. A disclosure will therefore not be long in coming.
The McLaren Artura is not the first McLaren with electrical support. For example, the hypercar P1 presented in 2012 was a plug-in hybrid and the speed extremist Speedtail already had a hybrid powertrain. In the Artura, however, the electrical engineering is linked to a biturbo V6. The Artura is the first McLaren with a six-cylinder behind the front seats. McLaren promises, however, that the V6 will not be inferior in pure power in terms of sheer power to the current Sport Series models with double blown 3.8 V8. We are aiming for the new hybrid McLaren to be a plug-in hybrid, as McLaren speaks of a ‘medium electric range’.
McLaren Artura
The Artura is built on a new chassis down to the smallest nut, which, like the rest of McLaren’s models, is laced with lightweight materials. According to McLaren, the added weight of the hybrid powertrain components is offset by the McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA). Curious about the appearance of the McLaren Artura? Then look no further, we were recently able to show you the patent plates of the hybrid newcomer. The arrival of the Artura and the coinciding end of the Sport Series has no consequences for the Super Series (720S, 720S Spider and the 765LT) and Ultimate Series (Senna, Speedtail and Elva).
