Vintage cars destroyed in Nijmegen

In Nijmegen, several classic cars have been daubed with terms such as “dick” and “aso”, De Gelderlander reports. Probably the place where the cars have been parked for a long time was the reason for the destruction.

This situation, which is quite rare for covered parking facilities, seems to attract old-timer owners. Anyone who is somewhat familiar with the Dutch situation does not have to guess long for the reason. The cars from before 1988 are eligible for the quarterly rate for the road tax, provided they are off the road from December to February.

This makes such a free parking garage an almost irresistible temptation for owners of cars in this category, which they can leave behind dry. That is also what is going on in De Karzerne, as the garage in question is called, where the cars have apparently become a stone of offense. Although we did not ask the perpetrator, it is difficult to imagine that he or she will point out another reason for the “creative” excesses on other people’s possessions. In addition to ‘dick’ and ‘aso’, the words ‘fetch’ and ‘get away’ also adorn the car victims, witness the photos of Gelderlander photographer Tom Hessels.

The cars in question are worth the trouble. In addition to a fairly common W114 Mercedes, we also see an eighth-generation Cadillac Eldorado, a Jeep Wagoneer, a Volvo 262 and a Ford Mustang Hardtop from the late 1960s. Who owns the cars, according to the cited newspaper also a mystery.
