The Mazda 6 and MX-5 will receive a model year update. The changes affect both the engine range and the pair’s standard equipment.
Anyone visiting the Mazda dealer from March will find the latest versions of the Mazda 6 and MX-5 there. The pair are undergoing a model year update that the Japanese are shedding light on today.
Mazda 6
The Mazda 6 of model year 2021 has to make do with a stripped-down engine range. For example, the brand cuts the SkyActiv-G 145 petrol engine from the price list and the two diesel versions, the SkyActiv-D 150 and SkyActiv-D 184 are also referred to the trash. This means that the ‘6’ can no longer be ordered with a diesel engine. The SkyActiv-G 165, the most popular powertrain, and the SkyActiv-G 194 will remain. As before, the SkyActiv-G 165 is available with a manual six-speed gearbox and with a six-speed automatic, although Mazda no longer charges an additional price for the latter transmission.
Mazda 6 Sportive
Mazda is expanding the standard equipment of the 6 with DAB + and the possibility to connect your iPhone wirelessly to Apple CarPlay. Also new is the Polymetal Gray paint finish. Mazda is also reviewing trim levels. The delivery range again includes the Luxury and Signature flavors. New, however, is the Sportive version, which includes a series of black elements. Black wheels and black side mirror caps are combined with a dark red leather interior. Mazda also supplies the 6 in a Business version and in a nameless standard version
Mazda 6 Sportive
The modified Mazda 6 Skyactiv-G 165 Sedan as a nameless standard version – with manual transmission or with automatic transmission – has a starting price of € 38,990. For the Business and Sportive versions, you will pay € 40,990 and € 45,190 respectively. Do you wish for more opulence? Then there are Luxury and Signature flavors for which Mazda successively charges amounts of € 45,690 and € 46,690. The more powerful SkayActiv-G 194, which is always linked to the automatic transmission, is only available as Sportive (€ 50,290), Luxury (€ 50,790) and Signature (€ 51,790). The surcharge for the Sportbreak is in all cases € 1,500.
Mazda MX-5
The MX-5 also cannot escape a series of adjustments. The well-known GT-M version is no longer for sale. The MX-5 with 132 hp SkyActiv-G 132 is now available as Luxury and Signature in addition to the nameless standard version. The MX-5 with the more powerful SkyActiv-G 184 also has the Sportive variant with Recaro sports seats and a Bilstein chassis. The MX-5 RF – with a steel folding roof – is also available with the above-mentioned engines and has almost the same versions. The big difference: the SkyActiv-G 184 can also be ordered with a six-speed automatic transmission with the MX-5 RF, although the choice is then limited to the Luxury and Signature versions.
Mazda MX-5 Sportive
The new Luxury version is very similar to the disappeared GT-M version, although the Luxury benefits from the arrival of perforated leather-covered seats and special door sill plates. The Signature variant has a dark red leather interior, black mirror caps and a black roof (soft top and hard top). The MX-5’s Signature with 132 hp petrol engine are on 16-inch alloy while the versions with more powerful petrol engine are put on 17-inch BBS wheels. The MX-5s are now available in the new colors Deep Crystal Blue and Polymetal Gray, although the paint color Eternal Blue is discontinued.
Mazda MX-5 Signature
Good news for those who found the previously applicable additional price of € 7,500 for the SkyActiv-G 194 power source compared to the SkyActiv-G 132 too much, since it has been reduced to € 5,000. The starting price of the MX-5 with 132 hp petrol engine always coupled to a manual gearbox is € 35,990 for the nameless standard version. The Luxury and Signature cost € 38,990 and € 40,990 respectively. The SkyActiv-G 194 costs a minimum of € 40,990, while the Luxury, Signature and Sportive versions change successively from € 43,990, € 45,990 and € 46,990. The additional cost for the MX-5 RF compared to the MX-5 with soft top is € 2,500. The MX-5 RF SkyActiv-G with automatic transmission costs € 50,290 as a Luxury and € 52,290 as a Signature.
The Mazda MX-5 and Mazda 6 from model year 2021 can be ordered immediately and will be at dealers in March.
