New Mercedes-AMG SL gets 4Matic drive

Mercedes-Benz has a new generation SL in the development rooms, which is being developed for the first time by Mercedes-AMG. It will be a car of a completely different caliber than the current type and will even get 4Matic all-wheel drive for the first time in the 69th anniversary of the model line.

The new Mercedes-AMG SL is an important model, although this has nothing to do with the car’s share of the Mercedes-Benz sales statistics. Since the launch of the 300 SL in 1952, the SL has been one of the oldest model lines Das Haus, a true living legend. For the first time in years, the new generation will get a fabric pop-up roof again, but it breaks with the outgoing model series in more areas.

The Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG (2016)

Although Mercedes-Benz will be thoroughly stripping its convertible range in the coming years due to the large overlap between cars such as the E Cabrio, S Cabrio, SL and AMG GT, the SL will continue to exist. The new model is being developed by Mercedes-AMG and will also be a 2 + 2 roadster. Indeed, with a small back seat. This makes the new SL a slightly more practical and less hardcore alternative to the AMG GT. The disappearance of the S-class Cabrio gives an SL 2 + 2 its right to exist.

Mercedes-Benz shares a series of photos shot in the far north during cold tests. The German manufacturer indicates that the new SL will include a 4Matic + drive. Never before has the SL been equipped with all-wheel drive, not even the mighty SL 65 AMG versions. The new SL only comes on the market as Mercedes-AMG, so you don’t have to expect an SL 500 anymore. Count on pretty hefty AMG machines, including perhaps an electrified SL 73e, although it is also possible that tamer versions, such as an S 43 or S 53, will come on the market.

More than its predecessor, the new SL returns to the sporty character of its illustrious ancestor. Mercedes-AMG will introduce it to the world later this year.
