This is how you download the latest version of OS X on your Mac

Apple offers two different options for updating OS X: the Mac App Store or through Apple Support. We explain which steps you need to take for both methods.

Via the Mac App Store

Not only apps, but also new firmware can be downloaded and updated from the Mac App Store. You do this as follows:

  1. Start your Mac and open the Mac App Store. If you haven’t already done so, sign in with your Apple ID;
  2. Click on ‘Updates’ in the top right and it will search for new versions of both apps and OS X;
  3. The software update should now be available, so you can download it by pressing ‘Update’;
  4. You can also click the apple in the top left and go to About This Mac> Software Update to see if new software is available.

Via Apple Support

Apple Support includes the latest updates for Mac and other Apple devices. You can also easily download OS X from this page.

  1. Go to the download page from Apple Support;
  2. Here you will find the latest software updates at the top. Click on ‘Download’ to download the correct installation file;
  3. Wait for the file to download, open it and follow the instructions to run the installation.

Now the latest version of OS X is installed on your Mac. At the moment that is OS X El Capitan, a new version that was released in September and of which a new update appeared last Monday. It is wise to ensure that your Mac is always provided with the latest software updates, as this, among other things, increases the security and functioning of the computer.
