Rumors have it that Apple will release a new iPad Pro and iPad mini this year. Dummy models of the tablets have now surfaced that reveal the design. Major changes seem to be forthcoming.
iPad mini 2021 dummy shows few changes
The dummy models have been put online by Sonny Dickson, a household name on the Apple rumor circuit. Dummies are fake products that have been recreated on the basis of schematic drawings. They therefore show a broad outline of what new products will look like.
Major changes seem to be forthcoming. At first glance, the iPad mini 2021 dummy looks about the same as its predecessor from 2019. This means that the compact tablet has relatively large screen edges and a Touch ID fingerprint scanner. Dickson does note that the new iPad mini is a bit thicker.
The iPad Pro 2021 dummy also shows few surprises. If we are to believe the photos, the product will have almost the same design as the current Pro. However, the camera on the 12.9-inch model does seem to protrude slightly less compared to the housing. However, this could also be a production error.
We already know this about the new iPads
Both the iPad Pro 2021 and iPad mini 2021 have surfaced frequently in rumors in recent months. The former would get a new Apple Pencil and can handle 5G. The new iPad mini seems to be slightly less compact because the screen grows. The size of the display cannot be seen in the photos above.
According to multiple Apple insiders, the company will release the new tablets in the first half of 2021. Normally this happens during the March event, but this year Apple skipped the presentation moment. The new iPads (and other expected products) may therefore be unveiled at a separate time or via press release.
