Tip: This is how you set up Visual Voicemail on your iPhone

Visual Voicemail is a digital answering machine that is incorporated in the Phone app on your iPhone. In this tip, we’ll show you how to set it up on your iPhone and what you need for it.

Set up Visual Voicemail on iPhone

If you want to listen to your voicemail, you normally have to dial a number and go through a voice menu. Visual Voicemail solves this problem by displaying recorded messages in a clear menu. You can also share or save recorded voicemail messages via the Phone app.

At the time of writing, there are only two providers that offer Visual Voicemail in the Netherlands: KPN and T-Mobile. The technology is not supported by other providers. So if you have a subscription with one of these providers, you can set up Visual Voicemail on your iPhone in no time. To do this, follow the step-by-step plan below.

Tip: This is how you set up Visual Voicemail on your iPhone
  1. Open the Phone app;
  2. Tap the tab ‘Voicemail’;
  3. Go to ‘Configure now’ and set a greeting;
  4. Tap on ‘Save’, after which your voicemail has been set up.

Setting up Visual Voicemail has a number of advantages over voicemail as you are used to. For example, your iPhone can transcribe the recorded messages for you, so that they can be read without having to listen to your voicemail. Your iPhone also uses your address book to see who’s called, so you don’t have to look up a number to find out who’s trying to reach you.

Does Visual Voicemail not work and do you have KPN or T-Mobile as a provider? Then you may need an update. Update to the latest version of iOS and download the latest carrier settings. To do this, go to ‘Settings’> ‘General’> ‘About’. If an update is ready, you will automatically receive a notification in this screen.
