Hyundai Custo is new MPV

Hyundai has prepared a new colossus: the Custo. Even before the Hyundai Custo is officially unveiled, Techzle can show you the first photos of that space giant.

Techzle has taken two photos of the Hyundai Custo from the database of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Transport. The Hyundai Custo is a new MPV developed by the Beijing Hyundai partnership. Beijing Hyundai is the joint venture that Hyundai has in China together with BAIC Motor. This of course indicates that the Hyundai Custo is still purely a Chinese affair, so do not expect the car on the market in the Netherlands.

The Hyundai Custo is a 4.95 meter long MPV with at least one sliding door, but don’t be surprised if the new spatial Kia also has a sliding door on the left. The wheelbase of the 1.85 meter wide and 1.73 meter high Custo is 3.06 meters. That is quite a long way. It is in fact no less than 19 centimeters more than the wheelbase of the Chinese Santa Fe, a version that already has a four-centimeter longer wheelbase than the European one. The wheelbase of the Custo is even 13 centimeters longer than that of Hyundai’s largest SUV, the Pallisade.

Although Hyundai gives the Custo an SUV-like appearance with its plastic trim all around, it is in fact just an MPV. The Custo appears to be Hyundai’s alternative to the Kia Carnival. Hyundai does not have a full-size MPV on its international menu for the time being. However, the 5.16 meter long Carnival is a bit bigger than this Hyundai Custo. It makes the Custo a typical Chinese model again, a car that is just that little bit different and that nestles itself slyly between its brothers and sisters in the Chinese model range. The Hyundai Custo will in any case be available with a 170 hp version of the 1.5 T-GDI, also known in Europe. That machine gets a 236 hp strong 2.0 above it. The Hyundai Custo will undoubtedly make its public debut in China later this month.
