Windows 10 has a function that keeps track of the performance of your battery. Of course, this only applies to Windows devices that run on a battery, such as a laptop and a convertible. But how do you get access to that data?
From the first moment you enter your Windows 10laptop or convertible, the operating system monitors your battery. You can access that data using the Command Prompt. This is a program on your computer that offers access to a lot more information, but in this case we look purely at the data that the battery leaves behind.
With just two lines of characters, you can see, for example, how many cycles your battery has now passed. You also get to see how the battery has been used in the past three days. This is very useful information, as batteries in laptops and convertibles can handle a few thousand cycles before they give up. This also applies to all devices that work on batteries.
Furthermore, Windows can give you an idea of what the battery life should be now, compared to what it actually is. In short: useful and interesting information that is not immediately available. That is why we are now looking at how you can access that information.
Request battery reporting for Windows 10
First, we need to open the Command Prompt. You do this by typing Command Prompt in the start menu. Since the file is released in an HTML file, it is useful to know where to find that file immediately. Therefore, type first cd% HOMEPATH% / Desktop in. Then the system knows that the file has to go there.
Now enter the following text: powercfg / batteryreport. If you copy this correctly, it will now show that the file has been saved on the path that you have indicated (in our case the desktop environment). Go to your desktop and open the file. You can open the file with a browser of your choice. Think for example of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
A lot of information
After opening the battery report, you will be presented with a lot of data about your battery. Don’t let it put you off and try to focus on important aspects.
