Facebook is rolling out a new feature for its messaging app. You can now send your Facebook Messenger live location to your friends for an hour.
Facebook Messenger live location
Facebook Messenger has gotten a new useful feature. It is now possible to share your live location with friends. This can of course already be done with Find My Friends, but that will not work if your friends have an Android device. Facebook Messenger’s location feature works on both platforms.
To use the feature, tap the location button in a call. If you can’t find it at the bottom, tap the more button and then choose ‘location’. You could already use this feature to put a pin on the map and then send it. If you now press the blue bar, you will send your live location. This means that your friends can continue to follow you temporarily.
Your location will remain available for sixty minutes after sharing. The person viewing the location can then see how long it will take until you arrive. You can always choose to stop sharing your location by pressing the stop button. If you don’t like sharing your live location, you can also just put a pin on the map.
Facebook is busy expanding Messenger. Since the beginning of this month, Messenger Day can be used, a kind of Snapchat for the messaging app. Facebook also tests emoji reactions in the app, as you are used to from the large Facebook.
Download Facebook Messenger
Facebook Messenger can be downloaded for free in the App Store via the link below. The new feature is still being rolled out, so it may take a few days before you can share your live location yourself. The app requires 227MB of free space and iOS 8+.
