The Netherlands has many public holidays spread over the year. Some are well known and accompanied by a day off, others a lot more obscure. You can put them all in your iOS calendar.
By ‘putting it on the agenda’ we don’t mean of course that you have to do it by hand. Way too much work. Moreover, not all days fall at exactly recurring times, just think of something like Easter, for example. Which would mean that you would have to walk all the special days for every year. Fortunately, this can all be a lot easier with the app Public holidays school holidays NL.
You pay an amount of – currently – € 1.09 per year in-app. For this you will receive a database with all public holidays that occur in our country, but also all school holidays. You can add it to your iOS calendar with a few taps. Very nice: if you happen to have a Mac at home or an iPad and so on, it will be available on all those devices thanks to iCloud.
Choose and add
To make all of this work, first install the app on your mobile device, either your iPhone or iPad, for example. Then start the app and buy a year of calendar data, for now that will undoubtedly be 2021. Select the categories of holidays. That will often Holidays NL are, if necessary Noteworthy days and School holidays. Other cultures living in the Netherlands can indulge in, for example, the Islamic holidays, the Jewish calendar, Hindu festivals and more. Holidays from various countries – including our eastern and southern neighbors – can also be added.
Another practical feature is the built-in cleaner, which removes holidays that have ever been added by the app. This is useful, because sometimes fixed days are automatically added recurring. Or you start the app accidentally or not on another i-device and add the calendars again. After a year or so, a mess of repeated reports arises in one day. With the cleaner option you remove all ever added items (of course only those added by the app and not your own appointments…) and start with a clean slate.
Finally, practical: items added to your calendar by the app are preceded by a Dutch flag, which makes them stand out (and you know where they come from).
