The biggest visible change from macOS Mojave is of course the new Dark Mode. However, switching quickly between the two is just too much of a hassle. Fortunately, this app makes it easier.
DarkSome makes maOS Mojave themes more accessible
As soon as you boot a Mac with Mojave installed, Apple immediately introduces you to the new dark mode. This night mode makes all white windows black, so that they are more pleasant to look at in the evenings.
You can turn this mode on by default, but going back to day mode takes a little more effort. You first have to go to System Preferences, where you then choose the light or dark mode in the general settings.
The Dutch Dennis Kruyt thought this could be easier. That’s why he created DarkSome, a free Mac app that lets you switch between Mojave’s day and night mode right from your menu bar. Once you have downloaded the app, you must give it the correct permission.
What DarkSome does is very simple, and works exactly as it should. As soon as you start the app, a new icon will appear in your menu bar. Click on this and you immediately switch from dark to light mode and vice versa.

Add DarkSome as the launcher
By adding the app to your startup programs, the icon will be permanently in your menu bar. You do this as follows.
- Click on the Apple icon in the top left corner of the screen;
- Choose ‘System Preferences’ and click on ‘Users & Groups’;
- Select the ‘Login’ tab;
- Click on the plus sign and add DarkSome as the launcher.
