Facebook Messenger has been given a new look and will include a dark mode. These three new features are in the latest update.
Facebook Messenger is getting massive update
Chatting with friends, sharing selfies or finding friends is a lot easier in Messenger 4. According to Messenger vice president Stan Chudnovsky, the renewed messaging app should bring back the focus on chatting with friends.
The company does this by implementing a simplified design and by tackling the way of navigating in the app. We list all the improvements for you.
1. Faster navigation
The navigation changes completely. Messenger lets the design sail with a total of nine navigation buttons above and below. This gives way to only three buttons; Messages, People and Discover.
In Messages you will find all your conversations and group chats. You can quickly send a selfie or message by using one of the two shortcuts at the top.
In the People tab you will find a button to add people in that place. You can also easily scroll through your friends list in this menu, find people, see who is online and view Stories.
Finally, via Discover you will find all chatbots of companies and suggested companies to chat with, follow the news or play a game.
2. Personalized chats
From now on you choose how your conversations with someone in Messenger look like. You give the chat bubbles their own color.
Also nice: you can set the conversation colors to slowly change from red to blue while scrolling through a conversation. You can change the conversation colors for every conversation or message.
3. Dark mode
More and more apps are adding a dark mode as an option for users. For example, screenshots of what WhatsApp’s dark mode may look like recently appeared.
A dark interface is especially nice if you use an app a lot in the evenings. The Facebook chat service is now finally getting such a ‘dark mode’. The background is pitch black and the icons are colored, so you can see them clearly.
Update is rolling out gradually
The update to Messenger 4 will be gradually rolled out to all users in the coming days. This will take a few weeks, so it may take a while before the update is available to you.
The update will also be rolled out in phases. For example, dark mode is not immediately available, but will be added in a smaller update soon. With this, Facebook wants to get people used to the new look and use of Messenger step by step.
