The week is over and that means that a fresh app overview is waiting for you! As far as we are concerned, you should not miss these new apps, games and updates. You can find the best iOS apps from week 50 here.
The best iOS apps at a glance
The App Store works overtime every week to handle the never-ending stream of new apps and updates. However, you will hardly notice this, because only a small part is worth installing. If your iPhone or iPad can use some new apps, you’ve come to the right place.
1. Google Maps
Google Maps will help you find a nice restaurant near you. In the new ‘For you’ tab you will find an overview of new cafes and bars in your hometown. The app also lets you know when your favorite eatery has a new menu or changes its opening hours.
The restaurant owners themselves pass on this information, but Maps also collects news items from websites. That way, the maps app becomes a foodie and you are always up to date with the latest restaurants. By default, Google Maps shows the news from your city or neighborhood, but you can add as many places as you want.
2. Giphy
Giphy has added a handy keyboard extension to iOS 12. Giphy keyboard allows you to search for gifs without opening the Giphy app directly from another app. That makes it very easy to search and send a GIF in apps such as WhatsApp and Telegram.
You activate the GIF keyboard by adding Giphy in ‘Settings at General> Keyboards’. With an iPhone X or later, you can even create your own GIF sticker with the camera button on the keyboard.
3. Brawl Stars
With Clash Royale, game maker Supercell has made its mark on iPhone gaming forever. Now the studio hopes to repeat this trick with the new game Brawl Stars. Unlike Clash Royale, in this game you are forced to cooperate with other players.
And where you can watch more from above in Clash Royal, in Brawl Stars you step onto the playing field with your character. There you walk around with your left finger, while using the right side of the screen to shoot at your opponents.
The base mode in Brawl Stars is ‘Gem Grab’, or Gem Grab. In this mode, two teams of three players face each other. The first team to collect ten gems from the center of the map has won. In the other play modes, the focus is more on shooting each other, for example until you are the last one with two men.
4. Pokemon Go
It took a while, but Pokémon GO players can finally compete to see who is the best Pokémon trainer. Only friends who have the status ‘Ultra’ and ‘Best’ can be challenged via the internet. Go into battle with the rest of the players by scanning the new Battle Code.
The multiplayer update is gradually being rolled out worldwide. The feature will first be available to higher level players, after which it will appear to more and more people. Currently, any player of level 20 or above can compete with others.
5. Instagram
After WhatsApp, it is now also possible to send voice messages to friends in Instagram. This is useful for when you don’t feel like typing, for example. It is only possible to do this in a chat conversation. You can send voice messages to both friends and groups.
A voice message can last up to one minute. Does your message take longer? Then you will be cut off automatically. The audio files can be listened to forever and do not disappear after a number of hours or days, as is the case with Instagram Stories.
