Kia is working on a new Niro, a car that can be seen in this brand-new set of spy photos in a camouflage suit. Although the majority of the new Niro is still fanatically covered with stickers, new design details can be discerned. The new Kia Niro will probably be presented this year.
The current Kia Niro appeared on the scene in 2016. The model was initially only available as a Hybrid and as a Plug-in, although the electric e-Niro appeared on the shelves in 2018. The Niro has already been facelifted and behind the scenes Kia is working hard on a successor, a car that has a more pronounced appearance than the current generation.
Kia has adopted a bold design language that goes by the name ‘Opposites United’. The stubbornly designed electric EV6 is the first Kia to be drawn according to that new house style and with the recently shown new Sportage, Kia proves that it is not afraid to draw even more daringly designed cars. The new Niro also seems to be a lot more stubborn. The design of the new Niro seems inspired by that of the Habaniro Concept, which made its debut in New York in 2019.

The headlights of the new Kia Niro can already be seen in these spy photos and the overall shape of the bumper is also clearly visible. Not only that bumper, but also the silver-coloured decorative panel that is located on the underside, is reminiscent of the muzzle of the Habaniro Concept. The rear is more fanatically covered with stickers, although the taillights, which are placed high next to the rear window, are already somewhat visible, just like with the Habaniro Concept. Another striking difference from the outgoing Niro: the rear license plate moves from the rear bumper to the tailgate.

Kia may pull the curtain on the new Niro this year. However, don’t count on it being at the dealers before the end of this year. Like the current model, the new Niro will probably be available as a Hybrid, as a Plug-in Hybrid and as an electric e-Niro. The test sample in these photos has at least a tailgate in its right front screen and a visible exhaust pipe. So a plugin.

De Niro has proven to be quite a success for Kia. Since its Dutch market introduction, more than 36,000 copies have been sold in our country. Last year, the Kia experienced its peak year, mainly thanks to the fully electric e-Niro. Then no less than 11,883 Niro’s left the showroom.
