The year is almost over and that means that the editors are looking back on 2019. Wouter lists his favorite iOS app, iOS game and Apple product of this year.
Favorite app of the year
My favorite app of 2019 isn’t one released this year, but I only discovered it this year. Google Tasks appeared at the beginning of 2018 and immediately made the switch to iOS.
This year I used the app a lot and that’s pretty cool about Tasks, because before that I was never really a fan of tasks apps. Often I would randomly put all my todos together in a note-taking app and finish them this way.

Thanks to the simple interface and the ease of use of Google Tasks, I have decided to take the plunge and my tasks are now neatly arranged each day, with a specific time when they have to be completed. Creating todo’s is super simple: press the plus button at the bottom, give the task a name and choose a day and time. This also allows you to use Google Tasks to set simple reminders, because you will receive a notification for every task.
Google Tasks is certainly not the most complete tasks app for iOS, because it lacks quite a few functions. Consider, for example, the option to also give subtasks a time and date, and an option to share tasks with others. Nevertheless, the app is good enough for me and it ensures that I have a little more structure in my life.
Favorite iOS game: Call of Duty Mobile
Although I’m not a fanatical iOS gamer, this year there is a game that I often started: Call of Duty Mobile. The game came out in October and is actually just as fun as the console versions. The controls work fine, games don’t take too long and it remains (even after hours of playing) great to unlock new weapons, skins and other items.
Recently, the game got even better with the addition of the Zombies mode, which in my opinion is one of the coolest parts of the Call of Duty series. It’s just a shame that there’s only one map available at the moment, so the mode feels a bit monotonous. Hopefully that will change soon, so that the Zombies mode gets enough variety, just like the normal multiplayer mode.
Apple Product of the Year: iPad Air 2019
The iPad Air (2019) isn’t the most exciting product released this year, but it’s the one I’ve used the most. The new Air fills an important gap in the iPad lineup, acting as an intermediate model.
If you’re looking for something more powerful than the iPad (2019) and find the iPad Pro too expensive, the Air is by far the best choice. The iPad is nice and fast, has a beautiful and large screen and – as we are used to from Apple – will last for years with iOS updates.

Although I enjoy using the iPad Air (2019) every day for browsing, watching Netflix series and taking notes, there are still some improvements to be made for the tablet. For example, the design is not very exciting and it is especially irritating that the Air has a Lightning connection and does not come with a fast charger. The excellent battery life makes up for a lot, but you can expect a little more from a device with a suggested retail price of 569 euros.
We have also written a review of the iPad Air (2019), in which you can read a lot more about the tablet. Or check the video review, in which we update you about the device in a few minutes.
