Explanation: is iCloud Plus a smart deal or not?

During the iOS 15 presentation, Apple also announced a new version of iCloud. Unfortunately, you don’t get extra space for your files, but you do get a lot of new features. In this article, we’ll tell you if iCloud Plus is a smart deal.

iCloud Plus: Smart Deal or Not?

Apple hasn’t changed much about iCloud for years. You still only get 5GB of free storage, which in 2021 isn’t exactly much. The limit has also been the same for the paid variants for quite some time. Rather than simply giving users more space, Apple is taking a different tack with iCloud Plus later this year.

If you are willing to pay for iCloud, you will soon receive a number of interesting functions. The prices of the subscriptions are still linked to the amount of storage and can be seen below.

Storage Euro price per month
50GB 0.99
200GB 2.99
2TB (2000GB) 9.99

The most important is probably Private Relay. This allows you to surf the internet anonymously, provided you use Apple’s own browser Safari. This prevents advertisers from building a profile of you based on your surfing behaviour. It’s not a full-fledged VPN, but Private Relay offers plenty of privacy for many people.

Do you find it annoying to enter your real email address on every website? With iCloud Plus you can also create a kind of disposable addresses, which you can forward to your normal account. For example, if an online store throws you dead with advertising, you can simply delete the address and you will no longer be bothered by spam.

Another handy feature is that you can create your own email address. That no longer ends with @icloud.com, but for example @yoursurname.com. Such a self-chosen iCloud domain name is of course much more fun. If you have a security camera with HomeKit, you can also store the images encrypted with iCloud Plus. The recordings are not at the expense of your iCloud storage.

Conclusion

So if you take out an iCloud Plus subscription, you can surf anonymously. In addition, you hide your real e-mail address, fix your own domain name and store encrypted security images. Of course you also get space to store your photos and files.

Is that a smart deal? And or! Certainly the cheapest subscription of 0.99 euros per month offers a lot of value for money. Your own domain name for your mail is about as expensive and a little VPN also costs a few euros per month. iCloud Plus even adds a few other functions and 50GB of storage space on top of that.

The more expensive subscriptions are also very attractive due to the new functions. If you need more than 2TB of storage, unfortunately you can’t go to Apple. You will then have to look at alternatives such as Dropbox.

It is not yet clear when Apple will launch iCloud Plus. Want to be the first to know? Then keep an eye on this website, download the free iPhoned app and sign up for our newsletter. Also follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
