Countless new Netflix movies and Netflix series appear every month. It’s difficult to keep up with all of them, so we would like to list the best movies and series that are new on Netflix. Here’s what’s new on Netflix in August!

Downton Abbey

The BBC is one of the leaders in making costume dramas. It is therefore not surprising that the Downton Abbey series gained many followers. All seasons of this series will be new on Netflix in August and you can binge watch this periodic drama in one go if you want. In this series, we follow a wealthy family on an estate in England whose household is one well-oiled machine. But of course the costume drama wouldn’t be complete without a bit of drama and so we follow the lives of the wealthy family members but also the lives of the staff in the house and we get all their personal problems as well as how their lives are changed by social changes. In short: a real pleasure to see during the rainy (summer) days.

Wild Things is a 90s classic coming to Netflix this month. In these years many movies revolved around sex and so this one too. In a university setting you have to watch out for all the pretty students who try to seduce a teacher or a supervisor. It could just be that you cross a border without realizing it. The attendant in this film is accused of rape while claiming to be innocent. Can he prove his innocence to save his reputation?

The Spy Who Dumped Me

The Spy Who Dumped Me is a classic spy movie, isn’t it? Because what if you find out that your ex-boyfriend, who unceremoniously dumped you via text message, is a spy wanted? Would you still try to help him or would you patch him up? This choice is for 30-year-old Audrey (Mila Kunis), who finds herself drawn into the adventure and danger of her ex-boyfriend completely against her will. That results in a lot of exciting but also hilarious situations and so you can watch this light-hearted action comedy on a lazy Saturday night.

The drug circuit of (South) America has always received a lot of attention. Drug traffickers such as Pablo Escobar have acquired an almost legendary status. This Netflix original mini-series Cocaine Cowboys: the Kings of Miami takes a closer look at the people behind the massive drug trade that provided America with the popular white powder in the 1980s. The two ‘cocaine cowboys’ shared their wealth with everyone and gained hero status in Miami and Florida, where they were active in one of the largest drug networks in American history.

Bob Ross: Happy Accidents, Betrayal & Greed

Of course we all know Bob Ross from his wonderful and soothing paintings where he tells us in a calming voice that there are no mistakes, only ‘happy little accidents’ that you have to make the best of. Yet there appears to be a dark side to the empire that this painter has built with his painting lessons on video. The battle for control of his company casts a dark shadow on his happy little trees.

Memories of a Murderer: the Nilsen Tapes

Another true crime series will be released on Netflix in August. This time, Netflix has created a mini-series titled Memories of a Murderer: the Nilsen Tapes. Dennis Nilsen was one of Britain’s most notorious serial killers in the 1980s and killed 15 people. He focused on young men whom he lured home to strangle them and then hide their remains under the floorboards. His motive and motive behind these murders has fueled much speculation in books, films and documentaries. After his death, cassette tapes were found in which the murderer himself is speaking. Netflix offers a unique perspective into the mind of this killer in this mini-series.
