Tim Cook became Apple’s CEO ten years ago. It seems unlikely that he will be stuck for another ten years. He wants one more big hit before he plans to quit.

‘Tim Cook quits after success’
According to Mark Gurman Tim Cook wants to ‘go big’ one more time. Under Cook’s leadership, Apple has only launched one truly new product. This is the Apple Watch, of which a new version will soon be released: the Watch Series 7. What will be Tim Cook’s last big success is still a mystery. Could it be an Apple car? Augmented reality glasses? Or does he have something bigger in the offing?

Apple augmented reality glasses
According to Gurman, it will probably be an augmented reality goggle. He tells in his Power On-newsletter that Apple is planning a mixed reality headset for 2022. But also that augmented reality glasses should appear ‘somewhere’ in the middle of the decade.
Tim Cooks has no end date in sight
In an interview with the New York Times Tim Cook said he probably won’t stay at Apple for another ten years. He did, however, make a comment and said that for the time being ‘there was no end date in sight’. According to Gurman, Tim Cook will retire sometime between 2025 and 2028, as he still has a contract until 2025.
Tim Cook has been with Apple since 1997 and became CEO in 2011 when founder Steve Jobs retired due to his health. Steve Jobs has selected successor Tim Cook himself. It is not yet known who will one day become Tim Cook’s successor.
