Play Yahtzee on tablet or smartphone

Big street, full house, yahtzee! Lover of dice, but is there no one around for a game? Then play a game in the Yatzy app.

Play a game of Yahtzee digitally in the Yatzy app. Play against yourself and beat your own high score or play against a robot, someone from the internet or someone sitting next to you. The app is free to use, but does show ads. Conveniently, Yatzy calculates how many points a throw yields. All you have to do is choose the highest score.

Download the app in the Play Store (Android) or App Store (iPad/iPhone).

Unfortunately, there are a few drawbacks to this app. Yatzy is in English. But those who already know the game and the associated terms can still use it well. Another disadvantage is that you will be presented with a fairly long advertisement before and after each game. The only way to get around this is to turn off the device’s internet connection. You will then no longer receive messages via WhatsApp, for example, but you can still be reached by telephone. If you do see an advertisement, do not press anything, but wait until a cross or a ‘Close’ button appears in a corner of the screen. This is often only at the end of the ad.

There is a mandatory tour of the app on the very first use. It is of course also in English.

  • Tap on play (English for ‘to play’). A test game starts to show all the possibilities.
  • Tap on roll (roll) and then several times Next (next one).
  • Tap again roll and tap the stones that are indicated.
  • Tap again roll and tap the designated die again.
  • Tap one last time roll and then those three throws of this turn are done.
  • Choose a post to fill in the score. For example, tap the box behind the six to fill in the thrown sixes. Tap on play to confirm the selection.
  • Tap several times Next and then on no.
  • Tap on write here and type the name you want to play with.
  • Tap Ok.
  • Tap the cross.

The introduction is ready. Finish the test game if necessary. You then play against no one. Prefer to play against someone? Then tap the arrow at the top left.

Choose (from now on) the opponent. There are four options:

  • Solo: you don’t play against anyone, it’s about improving your own highest score.
  • Online: Play a game against someone else who also happens to be online. At the top, next to your name, a clock counts down sixty seconds. Complete the turn before the clock reaches zero. On the red dice you can see what the opponent is doing during his turn.
  • vs a friend: plays against someone who is with you. Handy for when you want to play, but don’t have dice. Always surrender the device when it is the other person’s turn.
  • vs a bot: here players get a computer as an opponent. Red dice appear at the top representing what the computer has rolled.

The game and the buttons remain the same no matter who the opponent is.

  1. Tap on roll to roll the dice. The number indicates how many throws you have left this turn.
  2. Players may roll three dice per turn. Keep the best dice between throws. Tap a stone and it will get a colored border. You can re-throw the stones without an edge.
  3. Above the dice is the score card. The various items are yellow, behind them are the points you enter. Mental calculation is not necessary. After each roll, each post will show how many points it would bring. Tap a post to write down the points.

  4. Tap on play to confirm a entered score. Once you’ve pressed Play, you can’t change your mind.
  5. The cycle starts all over again. The game is over when each post is completed. The one with the highest score wins the game.

The app makes a lot of noise. Those who prefer to play in silence can turn off the tunes.

  • Open Yatzy or tap the arrow at the top left if the app is already open.
  • Tap the gear icon at the bottom Yatzy settings.
  • Tap a musical note icon. If there is a line through it, you know that the music is off.
  • Also tap a speaker icon to mute other sounds.
  • Close the settings via the red cross.
