Carlos Ghosn, the fallen Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi CEO, wants to get rid of his Renault shares. He let us know now that his book is being published. However, it will not be easy for Ghosn to sell his shares.
The former CEO wants to get rid of his shares because, according to him, the alliance between Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi is not going well because of a power struggle between the groups. It is unclear how many shares Renault Ghosn still owns, as he was no longer a shareholder in Nissan. In any case, he cannot complete the sale quickly, because the French government has seized the shares due to an ongoing tax investigation.
Things have not been quiet around the person of Ghosn since his spectacular escape from Japan at the end of 2019. The then CEO of Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi was arrested there in 2018 on suspicion of fraud, but feared an unfair trial and therefore fled the country in a coffin. Since then, numerous lawsuits have been filed against him. Last May, he was sentenced in the Netherlands to repay almost €5 million in salary to Nissan and Mitsubishi. However, Nissan does not seem satisfied with this, because the total charge concerns an amount of more than €80 million.
Luca de Meo currently holds sway at Renault. Recently, the company announced the Renaulution plan, with which the company focuses on the introduction of new electric models and wants to cut costs significantly. Apparently Ghosn does not have a lot of confidence in that, or he desperately needs the money from the shares to be able to finance his ongoing lawsuits.
