Strips provide better performance if installed in pairs. You still have to choose the right locations on the motherboard.
Current processors are equipped with a memory controller capable of working in “Dual channel” mode. This means that it uses memory modules in pairs to increase data transfer rates (access is carried out simultaneously). It is therefore advisable to buy memory modules in pairs (for example, take two identical 8 GB modules instead of a 16 GB module). But it is especially important to position them well on the motherboard:
- Locate the Dimm slots on the motherboard and read the manufacturer’s instructions to see how these slots are organized for paired use.
- Check that the locations have the same color as it indicates whether they can be associated in pairs.
- If in doubt, number the slots starting with the one closest to the processor and insert the two strips into slots 2 and 4.
- Be careful to position each bar correctly, taking into account the keying in the locations. The key is designed to snap into the notch of the bar.
