Facebook will soon be renamed, according to leaks. For the sake of clarity, this concerns the company Facebook that owns the services Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger and owns the virtual reality company Oculus.
New name for Facebook
CEO Mark Zuckerberg will unveil the new name for his company Facebook on October 28 at the annual Connect event. That’s what sources close to Facebook say to The Verge. The intention is that the company is no longer just associated with the well-known social media app and that it can better work on an ecosystem of products and services.
Facebook is working hard to offer a diverse range of products and services that are not directly related to social media. With Oculus, it already sells virtual reality headsets, there are smart displays, smart glasses and rumors speak of the arrival of a smartwatch. At the moment, the new name is said to be a closely guarded secret within the company, nor is it shared with all top executives on the board.

New start?
Facebook isn’t the first tech company to get a name change in recent years. The name Google was changed to ‘Alphabet’ in 2015, although Google’s products and services do of course remain an important part of the parent company. Snapchat changed its name to ‘Snap’ again in 2016.
With a new name, Mark Zuckerberg’s company may also be able to distance itself more from the privacy scandals Facebook has become embroiled in. Currently, a lot of negative information has also been leaked with the ‘Facebook Files’. What do you think? What would be a good name for Facebook?
