Apparently the retirement age has also been raised for cars, because this 65-year-old Porsche 356 still has to work for a while. He has been driven around the world by the American Renée Brinkerhoff and is now starting his greatest challenge: almost 600 kilometers through Antarctica.

Renée Brinkerhoff took part in a Porsche Track Experience more than ten years ago, after which she got the hang of it. At the age of 57 she started a rally career. Under the name Project 356 World Rally Tour, she drove over 32,000 kilometers across six continents with her Porsche 356, all for charity. She has competed in the Peking-to-Paris Rally, the East African Safari Classic Rally, La Carrera Panamericana, and more. So far, Brinkerhoff has raised nearly $500,000 for the worldwide fight against child trafficking.

Porsche 356 now on its way to Antarctica
Her journey ends in December 2021, when she visits the seventh and last continent in her classic Porsche: Antarctica. The trip was postponed for two years due to the worldwide outbreak of the corona virus, but now the time has finally come. At the time of writing, the 356 is being shipped from England to Chile before being dropped off by plane at the South Pole. On December 5, a journey of almost 600 kilometers across Antarctica will start, which should be completed by the end of the year.

Skis, tracks and a pneumatic jack
As is abundantly clear, the Porsche 356 no longer has wheels, but skis and tracks. The latter are made in such a way that they can be replaced quite easily with studded tires, which are necessary for driving over ice fields. The Porsche can lift itself with a built-in pneumatic jack. Brinkerhoff is accompanied on her journey by Jason de Carteret, a British polar expert who has led more than fifty expeditions.
