iCloud Drive is useful for storing files online. The cloud service can be used on all devices with an internet connection via the website.
iCloud Drive capabilities
Apple users are usually familiar with the iCloud storage service. Its successor is iCloud Drive. Here people can open, edit and save all kinds of files. The files are stored online. This will update them on any device with iCloud Drive if there is an internet connection.
Supplies
iCloud Drive users need an internet connection and a free Apple ID. iCloud Drive is aimed at users of a Mac, iPhone and/or iPad. People who also have a Windows PC can install special software for this. The iCloud Drive website is accessible through the Internet program.
Sign in to iCloud.com
Whatever device the user has, he can always access his files via the iCloud Drive website.
- surf to www.icloud.com
- Type the Apple ID email address and press the Enter key.
- Type the Apple ID password and press the Enter key.
- A verification code may arrive on your Apple device. Not having your Apple device at hand, but the phone whose number you provided when creating your Apple ID? Then click on the webpage Didn’t receive a verification code? You will then receive a text or voice message from Apple to that number with the verification code.
- On the device, click/tap To allow.
- The code appears on the screen. Enter this code on the website.
- click on trust.
- The website opens with icons from the various apps, such as Photos and iCloud Drive.
- click on iCloud Drive.
View file
In the cloud service iCloud Drive, the user can store and view all kinds of files. Open a file like this:
- If necessary, double-click on the folder where the file is located.
- Double click on the file to open it.
- If necessary, select the program with which you want to open the file.
Create folder
Folders are useful for organizing files. Create a new folder like this:
- Click on the ‘New Folder’ icon at the top .
- Type the name of the new folder and press the Enter key.
The new folder is now on iCloud Drive.
Upload file or folder
Upload a file or folder from the website as follows:
- Click on the ‘Upload’ icon at the top .
- An Explorer window opens. Navigate to the correct file.
- Click on the file and click To open.
The file is now saved to iCloud Drive.
Move file
Move files from the folder and file overview to a folder like this:
- Click on the file and hold down the mouse button.
- Drag the file to the desired folder.
- Release the mouse button.
The file is now in the selected folder.
Move file to another folder
Is a file already in a folder, but you want to put it in another folder? Then first move it to the overview with folders and files, and then put the item in the correct folder.
- Double click on the folder containing the file.
- Click on the file and hold down the mouse button.
- Drag the file to the text “iCloud Drive” at the very bottom of the screen.
- Release the mouse button.
The file is now in the overview with folders and files. Then drag it back to another folder if necessary.
Delete file
Delete files that do not need to be kept. This frees up space for other files.
- Double click on the folder containing the file.
- Click on the file.
- Click on the ‘Delete’ icon .
The file is now in the ‘Recently Deleted’ folder. Files remain here for thirty days.
Recover Deleted File
Do you want to save the file? Then put it back.
- Click on the bottom right Recently deleted.
- Click on the file you want to keep.
- click on recovery.
The file is now back in the root folder of iCloud Drive.
Share file
The user can share files and folders with others. Someone then gets access to the shared item. Share a file or folder via the website as follows:
- Click on the file you want to share with someone else.
- Click on the ‘Add people’ icon .
- After ‘Add’, type the email address of the person you want to share the file with and press the Enter key. You can type multiple addresses. Separate these with a comma or semicolon.
- click on Sharing options.
- Click on the drop-down menu behind ‘Accessible to’ and select Only people you invite or Anyone with the link.
- Click on the drop-down menu behind ‘Authorization’ and select Can make changes or Read only.
- click on Part.
- iCloud Drive will still show which link you are sharing. click on Copy link.
- Then paste the link in, for example, an email and send it to the right person or people.
Log out
Done with iCloud Drive? Log out if you share the computer with someone.
- Click on your name at the top right.
- click on Log out.
