Home Customize Safari on Mac

Decide for yourself which items show on the Safari home page. And brighten up the browser with your own image.


The homepage of the browser Safari helps to surf the Internet by displaying various information. The home page is visible when starting Safari and/or when opening a new tab. In Safari 14, the user decides which parts are visible. Features include Favorites, Frequently Visited Websites, Privacy Report, Siri Suggestions, and a Reading List. In addition, a background image can be set.

The items on the home page can be turned on or off.

  • Open the Safari app App Safari.
  • The homepage will probably open immediately. Then there is the tab ‘Home page’ at the top. Isn’t that the case? Click at the top of the menu bookmarks > Show home page.
  • At the bottom right of the window, click the three stripes icon with circles Menu home page.
  • The items visible on the page have a check mark. Click on an item to enable or disable it.
  • Click outside the menu to close it again.

By default, the home page background is gray. Brighten things up by setting a background image.

  • Make sure Safari is open with the homepage displayed. Isn’t that the case? Click at the top of the menu bookmarks > Show home page.
  • At the bottom right of the window, click the three stripes icon with circles Menu home page.
  • Make sure there is a checkmark next to ‘Background image’.
  • Choose a background by clicking on it. If necessary, use the scroll bar below the backgrounds to browse through the images.
  • Choose your own photo? Click the plus sign under ‘Background image’.
  • A Finder window opens. Navigate to where the photo is stored and click on the photo.
  • click on Choose.

The home page is visible when opening a new window and/or a new tab. Set yourself when the start page is shown.

  • Open Safari.
  • Click on the top left Safari.
  • click on Preferences.
  • Click on the tab General.
  • Click the drop-down menu behind ‘Open new windows with’ and then click Homepage.
