Any security expert will tell you that hiding the name of the Wi-Finetwork offers no real security. It only makes it a bit more difficult for possible intruders, because the name of the WiFi network can no longer be read openly. But it doesn’t mean you can’t connect to it. A quick way to create a hidden network is via the network icon in the taskbar. At the bottom of the list you see the reference Hidden Network.

At the bottom of the available networks you will see Hidden network.

Is your PC discoverable?

Select the option Hidden Network and click the button Make a connection. In the next section, Windows asks you to enter the name (SSID, Service Set Identifier) of the network. Then click on Next one. Now enter the password of the WiFi network. You will then be asked if your PC can be found by others in this network. Microsoft recommends that on Yes to connect to a home network. If you want to log in to a public network, such as in a cafe, click new. From then on you are connected.

If you want your PC to be found by other devices in your home network, choose Yes.

Via the Settings

Another way to connect is through the Institutions from the start menu. To do this, use the key combination Windows key+I. In this window you choose Network and Internet. Select WiFi. In the right section now choose the option Manage Known Networks. All saved Wi-Fi networks are listed here. Press the button Add a new network to add the hidden Wi-Fi network to the list. Enter the network name and click below Security type for one of the options. If you don’t know which option to choose, go for it WPA2-Personal AES. That will work for most networks. Then type in the field Security key the network password. Toggle both the option Auto connect if the option Make a connection, even if this network is not broadcasting in. Finally click Save.

Your network’s security type is generally WPA-Personal AES.
