Peugeot: “In EV transition, the models must remain sexy”

Peugeot is ready for the strict CO2 requirements of 2020. CEO Jean-Pierre Imparato tells Techzle. A bulk of new EVs and PHEVs must ensure that the French meet the new requirements effortlessly. But those cars must remain sexy at the same time!

“I don’t want the EV transition to scare people or our brand to be considered boring.” This is the reason that Peugeot will soon be launching the limited 508 Sport Engineered. That will be the first car under the new label with electrified and sporty models. “We want to show that sexy models are also being launched under the new voted model.” According to Imparato, the next 508 proves this: “The sporty sedan has 400 hybrid horses and yet emits less than 50 grams of CO2.”

Initially, Peugeot plans to build 1,000 copies of the 508 Spot Engineered, but Imparato has already hinted that there may be more. “It could just be that we are going to build 2,000, because our order books are already well filled. But we will see that. ” Delivery will start next October. Imparto further reveals that the 508 will not be the only Sport Engineered model. “We intend to turn it into a real line-up, provided that the positive reactions of the past months also translate into concrete orders.”
