Charging station at every new home United Kingdom

Every new house built in the United Kingdom from next year will soon have a charging station. Prime Minister Boris Johnson will announce this later today, British media write.

According to English media, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will announce plans later today at the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) that will oblige developers of new buildings to also install charging points for electric cars. The plans would apply to homes as well as offices and even supermarkets.

The plans would be necessary because from 2030 only new electric passenger cars may be sold in the United Kingdom. The authorities expect that 145,000 new charging points will be needed every year. New charging points must also be installed in buildings that are being renovated and with ten parking spaces or more.

Sales of electric cars in the United Kingdom are increasing sharply. In the first ten months of 2020, just under 76,000 new electric cars were registered. In the same period this year, that number is 141,296. The market share of EVs is already almost 10 percent this year. In the first ten months of last year, that percentage was still at 5.5 percent.
