The app CoronaMelder should help in the fight against the corona virus. For example, receive a notification if you have been near someone with corona.
Why the Corona Reporter?
For months we have been trying to control the spread of corona together. The CoronaMelder app should help with this. The Corona Reporter is an addition to the source and contact investigation of the GGD. And must ensure that people who do not yet have complaints are warned of a possible infection. Keep in mind, not all corona infections are registered in the app. Participation in the app is voluntary. But the more people participate, the better the app works.
The corona app was developed on behalf of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. This is done in collaboration with the RIVM and the GGD. The app will be available nationwide from October 10, 2020, so anyone in the Netherlands can use it.
How does the Corona Reporter work?
The CoronaMelder keeps track of whether the user was close to other app users via Bluetooth. The strength of the bluetooth signal indicates how close the users were to each other. If someone has been in the vicinity of an app user who turns out to have the coronavirus for at least 15 minutes, he or she will receive a message. This message states when the contact was made.
Please note, when using the energy saving mode, the CoronaMelder does not work.
Privacy corona app
In the message that the CoronaMelder sends to people who may be infected, no information about the identity of the infected person is given. The app does not use location, telephone numbers or other contact details. So it is not known who, where or when exactly it was. Only how many days ago the contact took place.
Receive notification from Corona Reporter
Receive a notification? Of course, this does not mean that you are actually infected with the coronavirus. But there is an increased chance. Therefore, stay at home for ten days after the date of contact with the infected person. This will prevent you from infecting others. Do you have any complaints related to corona? Please contact the GGD by telephone or online to have yourself tested. People who have serious complaints or who fall into a risk group should call their GP.
If the test is positive, you can choose to have this included in the app. This will alert other users you have interacted with. A GGD employee will ask whether you opt for this while calling the results.
