Follow public transport live via Google Maps

Follow the location of the tram, metro or bus via the Google Maps app. For example, you know whether public transport is running on time or whether you do not have to hurry.

If you search for a place, such as a museum, in the map app Google Maps, you can also see whether there is public transport nearby. The user can thus map out a route by public transport. In some cities, Google goes one step further. The company shows where a means of transport is located (Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague) and how busy it is (Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam and Eindhoven).

Find out where a means of transport is on the route:

  • Open the Google Maps app.
  • Tap on Search here.
  • Type the destination and tap the desired suggestion.
  • Tap at the bottom Route.
  • By default, the route is calculated from the current location. Another starting point? Then tap at the top My location, type a starting point, and tap a suggestion.
  • Tap a train icon Train icon to view the route by public transport.
  • Tap the desired route.
  • Here you will find all kinds of information about the route, such as where on the route the means of transport is now. It differs per location how much information Google Maps provides. Tap if necessary Also now to follow the route on the map.
