iOS 15.2 RC now available: release nigh

Apple has made the RC version of iOS 15.2 available to developers and public testers. The RC (release candidate build) is the last test version of a major release. That means we can download iOS 15.2 soon.

iOS 15.2 RC

For an interim update, iOS 15.2 brings big changes. A striking function is, for example, Digital inheritance, with which you can arrange your digital inheritance. After your death, an inheritance contact will have access to your iPhone’s data, such as your photos and messages.

Another innovation of iOS 15.2 is the Privacy Report for Apps. This allows iPhone users to see which apps have access to privacy-sensitive information, such as your location, microphone or photos. The report is very detailed; you can see, for example, the times at which the data was consulted. The network activity of apps can also be seen.

Innovations

For iPhone 13 Pro users, the Camera app will include a macro photo capture controller. For example, the function for taking macro photos can be quickly turned on or off. Now you have to dig into the Settings app for this. For iCloud+ subscribers, the Hide My Email feature is available to create a unique and random email address in the Mail app.

For the Find My app there will be an option ‘Items that can follow me’. If you tap this, your iPhone will search for trackers nearby that can be used to find out a location. This can be, for example, Apple’s AirTag, or another tracker. You can read more about the innovations in an article about the iOS 15.2 functions.

When will iOS 15.2 be released?

After an RC it usually takes less than a week before the official release follows. With iOS 14.2 and iOS 15, this was six days. This makes it very likely that we will be able to install iOS 15.2 as early as next week – possibly on Monday, December 13 or Tuesday, December 14. Often the software update is available around 7:00 PM. You install it in the Settings app, via ‘General>Software update’.
