Volkswagen experiences sharp drop in sales in November

Volkswagen is struggling with the ever-continuing chip shortage. The latest piece of evidence? The total sales for the month of November, which are experiencing a considerable dip compared to last year.

The chip shortage ensures that production is disrupted and the Volkswagen Group can let fewer cars roll off the production line than it would like. Due to those disruptions in production, the group’s worldwide sales fell by more than 31 percent in November compared to a year ago. Volkswagen delivered 616,300 vehicles last month. Since the beginning of this year, the Volkswagen Group’s sales of 8.2 million vehicles are 1.7 percent lower than in 2020.

For the entire year, Volkswagen still maintains a sales forecast of around 9 million cars. Last year, the group sold a total of 9.3 million cars. In order to achieve that target of 9 million cars, the group has to make up for 800,000 cars this month with the chip shortage as a hindrance. That’s going to be a lot of work in the factories!
