Former Opel CEO has already left Vinfast

Michael Lohscheller, who switched from Opel to Vinfast in July, is now retiring from the Vietnamese brand. The Vietnamese Le Thi Thu Thuy will be the new CEO.

We are looking with growing interest at Vinfast, the first Vietnamese car manufacturer to take the world market by storm. The fact that the brand managed to attract Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller as CEO last summer was a sign on the wall that they mean business. Unfortunately for Vinfast, the German’s leadership was short-lived. Parent company Vingroup makes according to Automotive News announced that Lohscheller has to leave Vinfast again, because he is moving back to Europe ‘for personal reasons’. Lohscheller had just moved to Vietnam for his new position.

Lohscheller’s departure means of course that a new CEO has to be appointed and that will be someone from our own country. Le Thi Thu Thuy takes the helm. She is already Vice-Chairman of Vingroup and will combine that position with leading Vinfast. The 47-year-old will take over from Lohscheller with immediate effect. Le Thi Thu Thuy took office as CFO of Vingroup in 2008 and in the past was vice president of Lehman Brothers in Japan.

The first achievement under the reign of Le Thi Thu Thuy will be Vinfast’s trip to the United States. The brand will unveil three models at CES in Las Vegas. The already well-known VF e35 and VF e36 will also be on display.
