What are the cars that gave color to the year 2021? All the editors of Auto Review weighed and weighed and picked two favorites. This time the choice of editor Igor Stuifzand.
Opel Astra
The new Opel Astra is by no means a groundbreaking car. It uses well-known technology and is on the same platform as the new Peugeot 308 (and Citroën C5 X, and DS 4). Like the 308, the new Astra is a refreshing appearance; the Franco-German duo gives the anemic C-segment a new impulse.
Why do I choose the Astra? Because Opel has made great strides in a very short time under the Stellantis umbrella, with cutting-edge design and cars that make you greedy. And that should be rewarded. There will also be an electric version of the new Astra, by the way. Just like the 308.
Maserati MC20
Okay, I’m cheating. We were introduced to the new Maserati sports car for the first time in September 2020. But let me defend my choice: Auto Review was only allowed to drive the car this year, and production started this summer.
As far as I’m concerned, this is the most beautiful car from 2020 and 2021. Perhaps even the most beautiful Maserati ever (although they have built so many beautiful cars)! The technology – with a hybrid system as in Formula 1 – is finger licking good. Just that name… MC20. Couldn’t the Italians have come up with anything better?
