The delivery range of Volvo’s largest SUV will now look very different from what you are used to. The well-known Momentum Business, Inscription and R-Design versions will all be cancelled.

Until recently, anyone who wanted to put together a Volvo XC90 came across versions such as Momentum Business, Inscription and R-Design during the configuration of the SUV. As of now, the XC90’s price list looks completely different. You will no longer see those well-known XC90 flavors on it. Instead, Volvo is introducing the Core, Plus and Ultimate flavors. For the time being, Volvo is only putting the XC90 Recharge (T8 Plug-in Hybrid) on the price list for 2022.

Slightly succinctly put, you can see Core as the new basic version. Core thus replaces the version that functioned as an entry-level model specifically for the XC89 with T8 Plug-in Hybrid powertrain: Inscription Expression. The Plus version replaces the Inscription, the Ultimate version is above that. The R-Design version will not return. At least not under that heading. The Plus and Ultimate versions can be combined with two exterior styles: Bright and Dark. The Bright line brings to the SUV a chrome grille with vertical louvers, chrome window surround, chrome inserts in the bumpers, and chrome strips at the bottom of the doors and on the rear and chrome roof rails. In the Dark style, all these parts are done in Glossy Black. Such black trim used to be a typical R-Design feature.

Volvo XC90 Bright

Volvo is asking €87,495 for the XC90 Recharge, which is performed as a Core. The Core, in combination with the T8 Plug-in Hybrid powertrain, always has Bright exterior style. Volvo asks €4,500 extra for the XC90 T8 Plug-in Hybrid Plus and therefore costs at least €91,995. and you can choose from the Bright and Dark styles. That doesn’t change the price. Compared to the Core, the XC90 T8 Plug-in Hybrid Ultimate has an additional cost of €9,500 and changes hands from €96,996. This starting price applies to both the Bright and Dark styles.

In any case, the XC40 now has Essential, Core, Plus and Ultimate versions and the XC60 will soon be on the price list as Essential, Core Plus and Ultimate. These cars will also have Bright and Dark lines. We are still awaiting a response from the importer, including on whether and when the B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains will be available again for the Volvo XC90.
