As of February, Android apps will work on Windows 11 PCs

Microsoft will make it possible to test Android apps on PCs with Windows 11 from February. From then on, the public beta will start for all users to participate in, and you will then be able to discover Android apps in the Microsoft Store.

Android apps on Windows 11

In June of 2021, Microsoft announced at the Windows 11 presence that the new operating system will support Android apps for the first time. We then learned that the apps can be found in the Microsoft Store, which will integrate with the Amazon App Store. All apps from Amazon’s store will automatically run on Windows 11.

Although the stable Windows 11 update has been available to users for a while, you still can’t download Android apps on your PC. Microsoft now makes in a blog post announced that everyone will be able to try Android apps on Windows 11 from next month. The public beta of this feature will start in February, but it is not yet known on which day it will start.

For a wider audience

In recent months, only a very small group of Windows users were able to get started with Android apps. They are the participants of the so-called ‘Windows Insider Program’. That is an unstable test version of Windows where new features are available first. The advantage of the public beta for Android apps is that you can participate on the stable version of Windows 11.

In addition to the beta, Microsoft is announcing that it will also roll out enhanced versions of the Notepad app and Media Player on PCs in February. In the meantime, Google is also not giving up, because the company wants to make the full range of Android games available on Windows 11 this year thanks to its own app.
