Samsung has already released the February security update. It still has to be February and Google has yet to update its Pixel 6 phones, but Samsung didn’t want to wait anymore. If you have a Samsung, you can now expect a security update.
Samsung updates
Samsung is doing well anyway in terms of update policy: Samsung makes fairly solid updates and certainly compared to Google they work like a charm. Google had a hard time with its failing December update for Pixel and a fairly late January update, but Samsung is even days early with its February security update.
Tipster Johan already emailed us with a screenshot of the update (thank you!) and the Netherlands seems to be leading the way with this update. There isn’t even a changelog from Samsung out yet: this is a page on which Samsung shares what is added in an update, but also which bugs are fixed.
Security Update
The update is often not sent out to everyone at once, so it may be that you have not received an update even within the Netherlands. Do you want to know how far your phone is? Then go to the Settings app on your phone, go to Software Update and then ‘Download and Install’. As you can see from Johan’s screenshot, the update is titled: G988BXXUDEVA9 and occupies 843.76 MB.
A security update may not be as exciting as a regular update, but it’s a good way to make sure your phone is properly secured. Hackers regularly find weaknesses and a security update ensures that hackers do not have the chance to take advantage of them. That is why it is important to continue to provide your phone with these updates.

Thanks again for the tip, Marcel!
