Every now and then apps get a new icon to bring them back in line with current trends and design languages. Google Chrome is the latest app to get such a new icon.
New jacket for Google Chrome
A designer from Google named Elvin has on Twitter revealed how the Google Chrome icon has changed over the years and what the logo will look like this year. Elvin reports the following in his tweet: “Some of you may have seen a new icon in Chrome’s Canary update today. Yes! we’re renewing Chrome’s brand icons for the first time in 8 years. The new icons will appear on all your devices soon.”
Below you will find the icons over the years. The last update was in 2014, which is eight years ago.
So the Google employee indicates that the unstable version of Google Chrome, Canary, will be the first to act, and in the coming time the stable version will also get a facelift. These icons will not be the same on all platforms, by the way. Google is working on platform-specific changes for the icon. For example, on Windows 11 the icon will have a clear gradient, while on Chrome OS the colors will be brighter without gradientless. This also works for macOS and iOS.
