Something is really bubbling at the DeLorean Motor Company right now. There’s a new DeLorean coming this year and it looks to be an electric reincarnation of the DMC-12.
Earlier this week, for the first time in over a year, there was another sign of renewal at the DeLorean Motor Company. Then new logos popped up and the rumor mill about a retro DMC-12 started up again. Not entirely unjustified, as it turns out. DMC is now showing a teaser of what is undoubtedly the new DMC-12. In the nose we probably see an LED bar that refers in shape to the shape of the DMC-12 with the Gullwing doors. The new DeLorean has those doors again and that, in combination with the other lines we see, is a solid hint that the new DeLorean will closely resemble its forty-year-old ancestor.
We almost certainly see the same car as in the photo above. Italdesign shared that teaser plate last year. The famous Italian design house was therefore at the cradle of the new DeLorean. That is promising. DMC is not exactly generous with information about the new ‘DMC-12’, but does let us know that we will finally get to see it this year and states that it is an EV. This puts an end to years of rumors about a reincarnation of the flopped car, which, partly thanks to the film series ‘Back to the Future’, still gained cult status.
