BMW has now pulled the curtain on the X5 L. That is the extended version of the BMW X5 that particularly spoils its rear passengers in spatial terms.

Fair is fair: for those who regularly visit AutoWeek.nl, the arrival of the BMW X5 L is undoubtedly no longer a surprise. As early as December 2021, we presented you with the first photos of the X5-with-a-size more and we were even able to report the dimensions. The reported figures appear to be correct, BMW is now releasing the X5 L itself, reporting that its wheelbase is 13 centimeters longer than that of the regular X5.

This variant of the BMW X5, specially developed for the Chinese market, has 3.11 meters between the front and rear axles. Yes, the X5 L has exactly the same wheelbase as the X7. In length, the X5 L grows by 14 centimeters to 5.06 meters. The X7 is slightly larger with a vehicle length of 5.15 meters, although the difference in length is small. The extended BMW X5 will soon be for sale as a 30Li and as a 40Li. The long X5s have, among other things, special seats in the back, a glass panoramic roof and an M-spoiler set that is specifically tailored to the taste of the Chinese consumer and therefore deviates from the sports package known here.

BMW has been selling the regular X5 in China for a while. For this, the manufacturer ships the model from the American Spartanburg to China. This new X5 L will roll off the production line from April at BMW’s joint venture with Brilliance in China. It is the first time that an X-model from BMW has seen the light of day in China. The regular X5 is also about to undergo a facelift. It is striking that the Germans have decided to present the L version with the ‘old nose’.
