iOS 15.4 Hidden Feature: Restore Apple Watch with Your iPhone

Sometimes it happens that your Apple Watch no longer responds to anything after an update. Fortunately, in iOS 15.4, Apple has added a new function that allows you to restore an Apple Watch with your iPhone. iPhoned tells how that works.

iOS 15.4 and WatchOS 8.5: New Features

You probably already know about the new features of iOS 15.4 on your iPhone and WatchOS 8.5 on your Apple Watch. But Apple has seemingly added more new options in the background.

If your Apple Watch has frozen, it is often enough to restart your watch once. Sometimes things go wrong and you even see a red exclamation mark on your Watch. This can happen, among other things, when your Apple Watch has frozen during an update.

You must then reset the watch by pressing and holding the side button along with the Digital Crown for at least ten seconds. If this does not help, you should send the Apple Watch. That has now changed with WatchOS 8.5.

When WatchOS 8.5 came out, Apple also released the (English) support page for problems with the Apple Watch updated. This page told you what to do if your Apple Watch no longer works. A new option has now been added that you can perform yourself if your Apple Watch has problems.

You need an Apple Watch with WatchOS 8.5 and your smartwatch connected to an iPhone with iOS 15.4. When it is possible to restore the Apple Watch in this way, you will see an animation of an iPhone and Watch on the screen of your watch. To restore the Apple Watch with your iPhone, follow the steps below.

Restore Apple Watch with iPhone in iOS 15.4

  1. Place your Apple Watch on the charger;

  2. Put your iPhone next to the Apple Watch; your iPhone must have iOS 15.4 (or newer), be connected to Wi-Fi, have bluetooth turned on and you must unlock your phone;

  3. Press the side button (the button below the Digital Crown) on the Apple Watch twice quickly;

  4. Follow the steps on your iPhone.

It is still possible that you will still see a red exclamation mark after this. Often there is no other option than to repair your Apple Watch in the old way or to send it to an Apple repair center. Still, we always welcome an extra option to repair your Apple Watch yourself with your iPhone!
