Audi has an all-electric equivalent of the A6 in the development rooms. With the A6 e-tron Concept and the recently unveiled A6 Avant e-tron Concept, Audi was already looking ahead to its new electric newcomers. Thanks to our spy photographer, we can already show you the production version of the A6 e-tron Concept up close!

In the same way that the electric EQE from Mercedes-Benz is next to the E-class, Audi is introducing a fully electric A6 e-tron that will be placed in the range next to the well-known A6. Mercedes-Benz and Audi are therefore opting for a different strategy than BMW. That brand also comes in the form of the i5 with an electrical equivalent of the next generation 5 series, but makes it a separate model to a lesser extent. Where the EQE from Mercedes-Benz and the A6 e-tron are on a platform specially intended for EVs, the i5 will soon share its basis with the 5-series, which will also be supplied with combustion engines. Unlike Mercedes-Benz, Audi does not stick to an electric sedan-like, because it also has the electric A6 Avant e-tron in the barrel. The Audi A6 e-tron has now been captured on spy image for the first time in production form.

Audi remains fairly faithful to the design of the A6 e-tron Concept presented in 2021 for the exterior design of the A6 e-tron. For example, the production version indeed seems to be a car that has some basic shape somewhere between an A6 and an A7. The snapped test sample is still fanatically in the camouflage patches, but there are already enough elements to observe. For example, the A6 e-tron has two layers of lighting at the front, with the units on the top floor housing the LED daytime running lights. Underneath are the actual headlight units. The bumper work of the production-ready A6-etron looks a lot more subtle than that of the conceptual harbinger, where it is particularly noticeable that the cooling opening at the bottom of the bumper is a lot larger. The electric A6 equivalent will get conventional side mirrors and in the doors we find semi-recessed handles. The rear lights seem to be more conventional in shape than those of the A6 e-tron Concept. Even now, Audi seems to place the license plate under a ‘roof’, a well-known Audi design element that was missing on the study model.

The Audi A6 e-tron and the A6 Avant e-tron will be placed on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) base, a modular base developed together with Porsche that you can roughly see as the MEB platform for the higher in the market. positioned models of the Volkswagen Group. This platform has 800v technology and can handle charging capacities of up to 270 kW. The A6 e-tron Concept had a 100 kW battery pack and two 476 hp and 800 Nm strong electric motors. Count on cars with a range of up to 700 kilometers and on various power variants. The A6s and e-trons are not the first PPE-based Audis. That honor is for the Q6 e-tron to be unveiled at the end of this year or early next year. The A6 e-tron does not immediately herald the end of the regular A6. That model, dating from 2018, is allowed to go for a while, but also for ‘later’, Audi says that it has plans with the A6. The future of the ‘conventional’ A6 will probably take place outside the EU. After all, from 2026, Audi will no longer be marketing new models with an internal combustion engine. The future of Audi is fully electric, but for now almost only in Europe
