Images have leaked of a new device in the Xcover series from Samsung, the series that is mainly known for its sturdiness. The renders therefore show a rugged smartphone, with all the characteristic parts that entails. However, the device will be a lot more modern than its predecessors and the device now offers support for 5G, among other things. In addition, the device has one other big advantage.
Xcover Series
Let’s go back to the year 2011. The year in which Samsung made its big breakthrough with its Samsung Galaxy S2. The vast majority of smartphones were not waterproof at the time, which is why Samsung introduced a new smartphone line that year. A line especially intended for people who were looking for a robust smartphone that could withstand water and survive the necessary fall damage. The Samsung Galaxy Xcover series was born. Each device in this series had a ‘rugged outdoor design’ with the distinctive ribbed plastic back, large patterned buttons and chunky sides. In short, everything was done to make the devices as water, dust and shock resistant as possible. Now, 2022, Samsung is likely to come with a new Xcover device, the Samsung Galaxy Xcover Pro 2.
Modern specifications

For example, the device should have a 6.5-inch Full HD + AMOLED panel and will have the Exynos 1280 chipset with support for 5G. This is the same chipset as the one used in the Samsung Galaxy A53. The device will continue to run on Android 12 with One UI 4.1. The price is probably around 500 euros.
3.5mm audio jack(!)
If we look further at the design of the device, we see that it is a typical Xcover device. Large screen edges combined with a tough, and somewhat coarse, finish including a ribbed plastic back and sturdy sides that should ensure that the device survives a fall. The device will also have a 3.5mm audio jack. It is not known when Samsung will officially announce the device and when the device will be available in the Dutch and Belgian stores. The device will probably come our way, since the predecessors of the device were also available with us.
