Apple didn’t just release iOS 15.5; A software update is also available for the Apple Watch. watchOS 8.6 mainly contains security patches.
How to install watchOS 8.6
To update your Apple Watch to watchOS 8.6, your smartwatch must be charged at least 50 percent. It must also be connected to the charger and within range of your iPhone. It must be connected to a WiFi network.
Then you can actually install watchOS 8.6. This can be done via the Settings app of your Apple Watch. Under ‘General’, tap ‘Software update’ and install the update. If ‘Automatic Updates’ is on, the update will take place at night when your clock is on the charger.
Unfortunately, that update does not contain any new features, but does contain security patches. These are very important to keep hackers out. In Mexico, the update brings some bigger features. Here, the Apple Watch Series 4 and newer finally get support for the EKG app and heart arrhythmia notifications. These features were previously not available in the country.
watchOS 9 gets a lot more exciting
Unfortunately, watchOS 8.6 is not that exciting in the Netherlands. Fortunately, Apple will soon come with a much larger update in the form of watchOS 9. The manufacturer will announce this new software version during WWDC on June 9. We will of course report extensively on this that day, so keep an eye on the website!
