EA offers itself everywhere, including Apple. Apple is not rumored to be acquiring the video game company. We think this is a bad choice. In this article you can read why.
EA looking for a buyer, offered to Apple
EA (or Electronic Arts) makes it no secret that they are looking for a buyer for an acquisition. Apple is rumored to be one of the candidates. It wouldn’t be wrong for Apple to actually buy the gaming giant.
Especially after competitor Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard for $ 68 billion earlier this year, Apple can’t stay behind. However, Apple is most likely not going to do this.
EA and Apple: A Happy Marriage?
Apple has never really cared much about games. When computers came up, PCs were immediately seen as the standard for games and even when game consoles took over the game industry, Apple did not intervene in the game market (with the exception of the failed Apple Pippin†
Until 2019, when the company launched Apple Arcade. This platform provides multiple games for Apple’s devices through a monthly subscription.
Electronic Arts is responsible for some of the world’s most popular game franchises. Think of the well-known sports game FIFA and family game The Sims† EA is also an excellent producer for the seasoned gamer; battlefield and Need for Speed also come from them.
EA and Apple go way back together. For example, EA founder Trip Hawkins was once an Apple employee. Developers moved from one company to another and Steve Wozniak was even offered a seat on the board of the games company. So they are happily married. So a bad relationship should not be the reason behind the delay in the sale. Then what?
‘EA Sports, It’s in the game’
With the acquisition of EA, Apple could finally really get involved in the gaming industry. In addition, the acquisition of EA could make Apple Arcade more fun. EA could also be of great importance to Apple for the new AR/VR headset. However, these ‘Apple Reality glasses’ will not focus on gaming.
Why Apple Won’t Buy EA
So what is Apple waiting for? Of course, the takeover cannot be paid for with a little change. It’s going to cost a huge bucket of money. Perhaps that’s why Apple has doubts.
In addition, Apple is under scrutiny. They would have too monopolistic an attitude on the app market. Taking over EA this way isn’t the best plan. If Apple also makes the EA games exclusive to Apple devices only, it could kick the wrong people’s shins.
We secretly hope that there will be a takeover. Gaming on Apple devices is one of the few things we still find disappointing. While it’s always said that gaming isn’t in Apple’s DNA, we’re hoping for a big change.
