Google Maps is much more than a handy navigation app. It also has certain characteristics of a social network. You can check your friends’ reviews so you know which places they like. This ranges from restaurants to museums and parks.
Reviews in Google Maps
When you’re on a city trip or holiday, you might rely on the navigation of Google Maps to easily find the right way. It is also handy that you immediately find reviews in the app about all places on the map, so that wherever you go you always find the way to the nicest coffee shop in the neighborhood. Please refer to the recommendations in the ‘Explore’ tab of the app.
In Google Maps you can also look at the reviews of your friends at a glance. You can immediately see which places they gave a positive or negative review, and any photos they have taken are also visible. These social features have been part of the app since two years ago.
This is how you can follow friends
To do this, go to the ‘Updates’ tab in the app and look under the heading ‘Suggested for you’. There you’ll see recommendations from Google Maps users you know. You can view their profiles that way and you can also click on the ‘Follow’ button so that you can keep a close eye on the latest activities of your friends.

As soon as they add new photos for a place or post a review somewhere, you will see this in ‘Updates’ from now on. In addition to the reviews and photos, you can also immediately view the place they have visited. Can’t see the latest updates from friends in ‘Updates’ right after you follow them? In that case, opening Recent Apps and swiping the app away may help. Then open Maps again.
